SECTION 2 - GAME INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

Some game players may experience difficulty installing and playing the
Police Quest Collection from Windows. This is because the first three
Police Quest games were created as native DOS programs. Therefore,
we strongly recommend installing and playing Police Quest from DOS
and enhancing the sound, graphics, and speed by using a boot disk.
Before you begin the installation, you should run a disk utility which
checks the condition of the hard drive and corrects any problems. If you
are using Microsoft DOS 6.20 or above please type SCANDISK C:
/AUTOFIX /NOSUMMARY <ENTER>. If you are using Microsoft
DOS 6.0 or below or if you are using IBM PC DOS, type CHKDSK/F
<ENTER>.

To install the Police Quest Collection, insert the CD into the appropriate
drive. From the DOS prompt change to the appropriate CD drive letter
by typing the drive letter followed by a colon. For example, if your CD
drive is D:\> you would type D: <ENTER>. Then begin the Police
Quest installation routine by typing INSTALL <ENTER>.

The Police Quest Collection installation menu will appear. Choose the
letter corresponding with the game you wish to install.

*Please note that as you select a game choice, a generic message will
appear stating that the games are best suited for Windows. Ignore
this message by pressing any key at that time.

POLICE QUEST 1 VGA
Follow the on-screen prompts. Choose the sound card which most
closely resembles the sound card in your computer. If you have a Sound
Blaster compatible card, choose 1. Sound Blaster/Adlib for the sound
driver and 1. Sound Blaster compatible for the audio driver. Once the
game has been installed into your system, you can play it by changing
back to your hard drive and changing into C:\SIERRA by typing C:
<ENTER> and CD\SIERRA <ENTER>. Then, type PQ1VGA
<ENTER> to begin the game.

POLICE QUEST 2
Follow the on-screen prompts. Choose the sound card which most
closely resembles the sound card in your computer. If you have a Sound
Blaster compatible card, choose 1. Sound Blaster/Adlib. Once the
game has been installed into your system, you can play it by changing
back to your hard drive and changing into C:\SIERRA by typing C:
<ENTER> and CD\SIERRA <ENTER>. Then, type PQ2 <ENTER>
to begin the game.

POLICE QUEST 3
Follow the on-screen prompts. Choose the sound card which most
closely resembles the sound card in your computer. If you have a Sound
Blaster compatible card, choose the sound card which most closely
resembles the sound card in your computer. If you have a Sound Blaster
compatible card, choose 5. Adlib Music Synthesizer Card for the
sound driver. Once the game has been installed into your system, you
can play it by changing back to your hard drive and changing into
C:\SIERRA by typing C: <ENTER> and CD\SIERRA <ENTER>.
Then, type PQ3 <ENTER> to begin the game.

POLICE QUEST 4
Follow the on-screen prompts. When you reach the sound driver
selection screen, make sure the settings are correct. Older games often
detect today's 16-bit sound cards incorrectly, so check the MUSIC
setting. You will probably get the best sound with the Sound
Blaster/Adlib choice for MUSIC and Thunderboard for AUDIO. Once
the game has been installed into your system, you can play it by
changing back to your hard drive and changing into C:\SIERRA by
typing C: <ENTER> and CD\SIERRA <ENTER>. Then, type PQ4
<ENTER> to begin the game.

SECTION 3 - MANUAL HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES

Occasionally, the procedures described in Step 2 do not install the games
correctly. When this occurs, the games must be installed manually
from the CD to the hard drive.

To manually install the Police Quest Collection, insert the CD into the
appropriate drive. From the DOS prompt change to the CD drive by
typing the drive letter followed by a colon. For example, if your CD is
drive D:\> , type, D: <ENTER>. Please replace the appropriate drive
letter for your CD in the manual installation instructions below.

All of these steps below should be performed in sequential order! Do
not skip any steps! The bold face print indicate letters to be typed, X
represents each Police Quest game, and key commands are enclosed
in value symbols < and > such as <ENTER> or <ESC>.

*Please note that Police Quest 4 may not play without the CD in the
drive and there is no available manual hard drive installation
procedures.

Please type exactly the following text to manually install the Police
Quest Collection onto your hard drive. Please replace the italic X below
with the game which you are installing. For instance, PQ1, PQ1VGA,
PQ2, or PQ3. An example is given on the right, please use it as
reference if you are having difficulties.

Please type the text below at the C:\>.

C: <ENTER>
CD\ <ENTER>
MD SIERRA <ENTER>
CD\SIERRA <ENTER>
MD PQX <ENTER>
CD\PQX <ENTER>
COPY D:\PQX\*.* <ENTER>
FOR EXAMPLE:

C: <ENTER>
CD\ <ENTER>
MD SIERRA <ENTER>
CD\SIERRA <ENTER>
MD PQ3 <ENTER>
CD\PQ3 <ENTER>
COPY D:\PQ3\*.* <ENTER>

Once the game has been fully installed onto the hard drive, you must
make a few minor adjustments to the game resource file before you can
play. Each Police Quest game creates a RESOURCE.CFG file in the
game directory. This file contains the hardware settings that game needs
to run. To change this file, switch to the current directory where the
games have been installed by typing C: <ENTER> and
CD\SIERRA\PQX <ENTER> with X still representing each Police
Quest game. Before we can edit any of the game resource files we need
to unlock the files by typing at the C:\SIERRA\PQX game prompt,
ATTRIB *.* -R <ENTER>. If you are using Microsoft DOS type
EDIT RESOURCE.CFG <ENTER>. If you are using IBM PC DOS
type E RESOURCE.CFG <ENTER>. At this point, you should see a
screen with text very similar to the information in the DEFAULT
RESOURCE.CFG listed in the left column on the next page. The
RESOURCE.CFG file needs to be slightly modified with consideration
to each individual computer system. Depending on what kind of sound
card is currently in your computer, enter the appropriate sound card
driver names .

A default RESOURCE.CFG for PQ1VGA is on the left and a modified
RESOURCE.CFG is given as an example on the right. Make note of
the minor changes indicated by the bold italic print. The file to the right
indicates that we will be using a Sound Blaster/Adlib card for sound
and a Sound Blaster driver for the audio, whereas the default file on the
left indicates that we will be using a PC internal speaker for sound and
that there is no audio support available.

To ensure that you will receive all the proper sounds from the games,
change the soundDrv and audioDrv lines in the RESOURCE.CFG file.
The following pages are the game sound driver files and their driver
names. Please edit your RESOURCE.CFG file as stated above and
modify the audio, sound, or both lines. Note that Police Quest 1VGA
and Police Quest 4 have a sound and audio option, whereas Police Quest
2 and 3 only have the sound option.

editor and choose EXIT. You will be prompted with a message if you
wish to save your currently modified work and choose YES to save the
information. If you are using IBM PC DOS push the F2 key once to
save the file and press the F3 once to exit to DOS. If you feel that you
have made a mistake or you do not feel comfortable editing the resource
file, you may click your mouse on the FILE pull down menu at the top
of your editor, choose EXIT and choose NO when it prompts you to
save your work. If you are using IBM PC DOS press the F3 key once
and do not save any changes upon exit.

Once the games have been manually installed into the system, we
recommend making batch files to start each individual game. *Note that
the following information is legitimate only if you have followed the
Police Quest Installations specified in SECTION 3 - MANUAL
HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION PROCEDURES. Type the following
information with the bold face print indicating letters to be typed, the
and key commands are enclosed in value symbols < and > such as
<ENTER> or <ESC>. Use your DOS text editor as described above to
create these files.

Once these batch files have been made, you can begin a game by typing
CD\SIERRA<ENTER> and then typing the games you wish to play
followed by the <ENTER> key. For instance, if you wish to play Police
Quest 3 you should type PQ3 <ENTER>.

SECTION 4 - COMMON INSTALLATION PROBLEMS

PROBLEM: When trying to start Police Quest 1,2, or 3 in Windows, you
receive an error messages stating that these are DOS games and should
be played from a DOS prompt.
SOLUTION: The games have been created as native DOS language
programs and are best played through DOS. Please exit Windows by
clicking on the FILE pull down menu and selecting EXIT. When you
have a black screen, please type CD\SIERRA <ENTER> and type PQ,
PQ1VGA, PQ2, PQ3, or PQ4 to start each game. Please read the next
problem and solution below.

PROBLEM: When you try to start the games, a message is displayed
saying "This installation is incomplete, you may either run this product
with simple defaults, run the install to customize the product, or exit."
SOLUTION: When the message appears, choose I for install and follow the
instructions in Section 2.

PROBLEM: During the installation a message stating "Out of environment
space" appears.
SOLUTION: Type C: <ENTER> at a DOS prompt and if you are using
Microsoft DOS type EDIT CONFIG.SYS or if you are using IBM PC
DOS, type E CONFIG.SYS <ENTER>. Place your cursor at the very
last empty line on the screen and type the following line:
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /E:512 /P. Next, if you are using
MS-DOS click on the FILE pull down menu and select EXIT and save
your changes when you are prompted to. If you are using IBM PC DOS,
press the F2 and then the F3 to save and exit. Reboot you system and
the games should install fine. When the games have finished installing,
repeat these steps and remove the SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM
/E:512 /P from your CONFIG.SYS file.

PROBLEM: During installation, you receive an error message saying
"You do not have a 256 color driver loaded in Windows." (Windows
version only.)
SOLUTION: Sierra's Windows games require that Windows is running in
256 color mode. Even though your monitor and video card may be
capable of displaying 256 colors, Windows may not be set up to use this
resolution. To check, double-click on Windows Setup in the Main
program group. If the Display line reads "VGA" or "16 color", you will
need to change to a driver that supports 256 colors. ("VGA" is a default
Windows video driver that only supports 16 colors and will not work
with Sierra's Windows games.) To change video drivers, select
Options, then Change System Settings. Open the Display box to see the
list of video drivers that are currently available. You should check your
video card documentation for information on what 256 color driver to
select.

If you choose a video driver that is not designed for your particular
video card, Windows will not display properly. If this occurs, change to
your Windows directory, type: SETUP, and choose the "VGA" driver
again. You should contact your video card manufacturer for the correct
driver. Please remember that we strongly recommend playing the games
from DOS, which do not require any special drivers.

PROBLEM: During installation, you see several lines saying "File creation
errors" or "Cannot write existing file."
SOLUTION: The installation program is detecting and is conflicting with a
previous corrupt installation. Please type the following text at a DOS
prompt with the bold face print indicating letters to be typed and key
commands are enclosed in value symbols < and > such as <ENTER> or
<ESC>.

C: <ENTER>
CD\SIERRA <ENTER>
DELTREE PQCOL <ENTER>
DEL PQ*.* <ENTER>

Once the files games have been removed from the system, please
reinstall the games in DOS by following the steps in Section 3 - Manual
- Game Installation Procedures.

PROBLEM: While installing or playing the game, the computer tells you
messages that cannot read the CD-ROM. Errors such as, Can't Read
Drive D:\, CDR101 Can't Read the Drive, DOS Error, Read Error, etc.
SOLUTION: These errors occur when the Police Quest Collection program
is unable to read files off the CD. The most common reason for this is a
dirty or scratched CD. You should check the CD to make sure that there
are no smudges, fingerprints, scratches or cracks on it. If you see any
smudges on the CD, clean it off with a soft cloth and try it again. If this
doesn't work, the problem may lie with the CD ROM drivers. You
should make sure that you are using the latest version (v2.23 or 2.25) of
MSCDEX in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. If you're using DOS 6.2 or
higher, use the MSCDEX in your C:\DOS directory, this one is version
2.23. You should also check with the CD ROM drive manufacturer to
make sure that you have the latest version of their CD drivers. Outdated
or incompatible drivers can also cause this type of problem.

This error can also be caused by a defective CD. The easiest way to get
a new CD is to exchange it at the store where you bought the game. If
they are unable to exchange it for you, you can contact Sierra Customer
Service at 1-800-SIERRA5 to arrange a CD replacement.

PROBLEM: When trying to launch Police Quest 4 you get an "Out of rect
list room" error message.
SOLUTION: This is an incompatibility with Logitech's MouseWare v6.4.
Upgrading to v6.41 will correct the problem. Logitech provides
upgrades free of charge to registered users. Their Technical Support
phone number is (510) 795-0801 and their BBS is (510) 795-0408.

PROBLEM: You get a "DOS 4GW Professional Error" when starting the
game. (Police Quest 4)
SOLUTION: This error message indicates that memory is low or
inaccessible. If you have less than 4 MB (the minimum memory
requirement), you will get this error message. Police Quest 4 will not
run on computers with less than 4 MB. If you have 4 MB of RAM, run
the game with a boot disk. To create a boot disk, you can use the boot
disk instructions in the above Section 5 - Memory Troubleshooting.

PROBLEM: Game crashes with large (mode 40) text on the screen. Text
may contain the words "crash address". May happen when program is
started or randomly within the game. (Police Quest 4)
SOLUTION: Run the game under a boot disk environment. To create a
boot disk, you can use the boot disk instructions in Section 5 - Memory
Troubleshooting.

PROBLEM: You receive an "out of low memory" message during Police
Quest 4.
SOLUTION: There are two possible solutions to this memory issue. First,
try making a boot disk and running the game under the boot disk
environment. To create a boot disk, you can use the boot disk
instructions in the above Section 5 - Memory Troubleshooting and add
the following lines to the very beginning of the boot disk CONFIG.SYS.

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DOS=HIGH

PROBLEM: Random lockups during the game using the Gravis
Ultrasound card (Police Quest 4 only).
SOLUTION: Sierra and Gravis have developed new drivers for use with the
GUS card and our other 32-bit programs. The driver is named GUS32.
See the section "Obtaining a Sierra Patch Disk" later in this document
for information on getting this driver.

SECTION 5 - MEMORY TROUBLESHOOTING

Some game players have experienced difficulty getting enough memory
to run Police Quest. This may occur on any PC systems no matter how
much RAM memory that you may have. If you are having trouble
starting the game because of memory problems or are receiving
memory-related errors during the game, here is a list of troubleshooting
steps to try.

Create a Boot Disk: Sierra has included a boot disk maker with Police
Quest Collection. The first 3 Police Quests in the series use a large
amount of conventional and extended memory. However, Police Quest 4
is slightly different than the first 3 quests including extremely high
graphics, sound, and memory requirements. Due to the demanding
resources and requirements of the game, we have implemented a special
memory manager in the program to enhance game play. The previous 3
Police Quests do not use any special memory managers which roughly
translates that you may need two completely separate boot disks, one
boot disk to operate the first three Police Quest and one special boot disk
for Police Quest 4. The Boot Disk Creator is the available in the root
directory on the CD-ROM and you can run it manually from the DOS
prompt by changing to the appropriate CD-ROM drive letter by typing
the drive letter followed by a colon. For example, if you CD-ROM drive
was D:\> you would type; D: <ENTER> Then type one of the following
commands listed below.

GAME NAME COMMAND
Police Quests 1, 1VGA, 2, and 3 BOOTDISK -C <ENTER>
Police Quest 4 BOOTDISK -C -P <ENTER>
All Police Quest games in Windows BOOTDISK -C -W <ENTER>

If the automatic boot disk maker does not work for you, or you are still
having problems after making the boot disk this way, create a boot disk
manually. Instructions for creating a manual boot disk are in Section 7 -
Boot Disk Instructions.

SECTION 6 - COMMON PROBLEMS DURING GAME PLAY

PROBLEM: When you try to save a game, you receive a message
indicating that the disk because it is full.
SOLUTION: Occasionally, the game defaults to trying to save the games to
the CD-ROM. You need to specify a new save directory by clicking on
the box stating "Change Directory." The NEW SAVE GAME
DIRECTORY line will say D:\SIERRA\PQX. Remove and replace the
line with C:\SIERRA\PQCOL and click OK. When you have finished
specifying the new save directory, give the file a description such as
BOB'S GAME and save the game.

PROBLEM: Police Quest 1 locks up in the park after you arrest the
suspect.
SOLUTION: The game is not really locked up, it's just paused. Pull up the
map to move onto the next screen. If this does not help and you are playing
the game on a Pentium, you need the PQ1VGA patch. Please see Section 8.

PROBLEM: Police Quest 3 loops. The loop begins with the coroner, who
sends you to the crash scene, at the crash scene you're told to go back to
the station, at the station you're told to go back to the coroner. Or, the
Judge keeps talking and won't stop.
SOLUTION: These are caused by missing these vital points in the game:
A. You needed to have pulled the low-rider over on the freeway
and given him a ticket.
B. You need to have made a duplicate of Morales' key that
hangs from her purse.
C. You needed to click the notebook icon on the cocaine packet
found in Morales' locker.
D. You need to knock on the suspect's door.

Due to the functionality of the program, you must restore a saved game
prior to these scenes in order to get past these loops. Another option for
the coroner loop is to not listen to the chief when he tells you to return to
the coroner. Just go to the crack house. If these problems persist, delete
and reinstall the game. Start over and don't miss the above actions in
the game!

PROBLEM: You can't leave the first screen when playing Police Quest 4.
SOLUTION: You do not have the option to leave the first screen until all the
clues and evidence have been collected. You must be sure to take notes
of the graffiti on the wall with your notepad, circle the body, and the
cigarette on the ground with chalk. After you have done all these
actions, the game will proceed to the next scene automatically.

SECTION 7 - POLICE QUEST COLLECTION BOOT DISK INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read the entire instructions prior to
starting at Step 1.

STEP 1
FORMATTING THE DISK
To make a boot disk, format a high density diskette in the A: drive. (It is
necessary to reformat the disk if it is already formatted.) Formatting the
disk with the /S switch will transfer the "system files" to the disk and
allow the computer to boot up correctly. The disk must be in the A:
drive; the computer will not boot from the B: drive. Type the FORMAT
command as follows:

FORMAT A: /S <ENTER>

If you get a "Bad command or file name" error message, type:

PATH=C:\DOS <ENTER>

Then retype the FORMAT command above. If you receive the error
again, the MS-DOS FORMAT command may not be on your system, or
it may have been renamed. Programs such as PC Tools and Norton
Disk Utilities sometimes rename the FORMAT command to prevent
accidental loss of data. If you are using a program of this type, check
your documentation to find out how to format a SYSTEM DISK, then
proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2
LOCATING THE MOUSE DRIVER
If you are playing a game that uses a mouse, the Microsoft compatible
mouse driver must be loaded into memory with the boot disk. There are
two kinds of mouse drivers available: those that load in the
CONFIG.SYS file and those that load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
CONFIG.SYS mouse drivers have an extension of .SYS (MOUSE.SYS)
and AUTOEXEC.BAT drivers have either a .COM or .EXE extension
(MOUSE.COM, MOUSE.EXE). You must load at least one of these
drivers, but it is not necessary to load them all.

If you do not know where the mouse drivers are located on your system,
the command below should help you locate them. Type the following at
the C:\ prompt:

DIR MOUSE* /S <ENTER>

This command will cause the system to search all subdirectories for a
file called MOUSE. If the system locates a MOUSE file, it will display
the path where the file is located. For example, if the MOUSE.COM
file is located in a C:\MOUSE directory, the system will display:

Directory of C:\MOUSE
	MOUSE.SYS 55160 03-10-92	3:10a
	MOUSE.COM 56408	03-10-03	6:00a

If this procedure does not locate a MOUSE file, your mouse driver may
have a different name. Some common names for mouse drivers are
IMOUSE, GMOUSE and HPMOUSE. Your should check your mouse
documentation for the exact file names and how to install them.

Once you have located the mouse driver, you must copy it to the boot
disk. The following example assumes that the mouse drivers are located
in the C:\MOUSE directory as shown in the step above. To copy the
MOUSE files to the boot disk, type:

COPY C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.* A: <ENTER>

Substitute the appropriate path and file names for your mouse drivers in
the command above. After you press ENTER, you should see a
message indicating that some files were copied.

STEP 3
LOCATING THE CD ROM DEVICE DRIVER
The CD ROM drive requires a device driver loaded in the
CONFIG.SYS file. This driver must be loaded correctly or you will be
unable to access your CD ROM drive. To make sure that the device
driver loads correctly on the boot disk, look at the CONFIG.SYS on the
hard drive and copy the driver line from there. At the C:\ prompt, type:

TYPE CONFIG.SYS|MORE

NOTE: The | is called a "pipe" command and is created by pressing
<SHIFT> <BACKSLASH>.

The CONFIG.SYS file will display on the screen. Look for the line that
loads the CD ROM device driver. This line will contain the same "/D:"
switch as the MSCDEX line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Using the
MSCDEX example above, you would be looking for a line containing
"/D:MSCD001". The line should look something like this:

DEVICE=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220
DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220
DEVICEHIGH /L:14652 =C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220

The device driver in your CONFIG.SYS may differ slightly from those
listed above. Carefully write down the line for use in your boot disk.
Leave out the "/L:" information, if any. Your CD ROM device line
should appear as follows:

DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220

NOTE: If you have a SCSI CD ROM drive, there may be an additional
driver in your CONFIG.SYS that must be loaded for the CD ROM
device drivers to load correctly. Check your CD drive documentation
for more information.

STEP 4
LOCATING THE MSCDEX CD ROM EXTENSION
In addition to the CD ROM device driver in the CONFIG.SYS, your CD
ROM drive requires MSCDEX, the Microsoft extension for CD ROM
drives. If this extension is not loaded correctly in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT, you will be unable to access your CD ROM drive.
To make sure that MSCDEX loads correctly on the boot disk, look at
the AUTOEXEC.BAT on the hard drive and copy the MSCDEX line
from there. At the C:\ prompt, type:

TYPE AUTOEXEC.BAT|MORE <ENTER>

The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will display on the screen. Look for the line
that loads the MSCDEX extension. It should look something like this:

C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001
LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001
LOADHIGH /L:14429 C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001

The MSCDEX line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT may differ slightly from
the ones above. Carefully write down the line for use in your boot disk.
Leave out the "/L:" information, if any. If the "LH" is missing, add it.
For example, any of the above lines will appear on your boot disk as
follows:

LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001

STEP 5
LOCATING THE SOUND CARD DRIVERS
Many sound cards have drivers or initialization lines that must be loaded
in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. Some sound cards that
require these drivers or initialization routines are the SoundBlaster 16,
MAD16 and the Aria 16.

At the end of these Boot Disk Instructions, you will find a section
labeled "Sound Cards". These tables contain the sound card lines for
many common sound cards. Check to see if your sound card is on the
list. If it is, then you will need to add the appropriate lines to the
AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS on your boot disk. If your
sound card is not on the list, you should check your documentation for
information on what needs to load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS.

STEP 6
CREATING THE CONFIG.SYS FILE
To create the CONFIG.SYS file on the boot disk, switch to the A: drive
and type the following:

COPY CON CONFIG.SYS <ENTER> (the cursor will drop down one line and blink)
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS <ENTER>
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS <ENTER> (leave this line out if you are
making a boot disk for PQ4)
DOS=HIGH,UMB <ENTER>
FILES=30 <ENTER>
BUFFERS=20 <ENTER>

If you are using the MOUSE.SYS file to load your mouse, add the
following line to the CONFIG.SYS:

DEVICEHIGH=A:\MOUSE.SYS <ENTER>

Add the CD ROM device driver as you wrote it down in the "Locating
the CD ROM Device Driver" step. For example:

DEVICEHIGH=C:\DRV\CDROMDRV.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:220 <ENTER>

If you need to load any sound card drivers, copy them from the "Sound
Cards" section now. The following example lines are for the
SoundBlaster 16:

DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /BLASTER=A:220 I:5 D:1 H:5 <ENTER>
DEVICEHIGH=C:\SB16\DRV\CTMM.SYS <ENTER>

Complete the file by pressing <F6> <ENTER>.

STEP 7
CREATING THE AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE
To create the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the boot disk, switch to the A:
drive and type the following:

COPY CON AUTOEXEC.BAT <ENTER> (the cursor will drop down one line and blink)
@ECHO OFF <ENTER>
C:\ <ENTER>
SET COMSPEC=C:\COMMAND.COM <ENTER>
PROMPT SIERRA BOOT DISK $_$P$G <ENTER>
PATH=C:\;C:\DOS;C:\SIERRA <ENTER>

If you are using the MOUSE.COM or MOUSE.EXE file to load your
mouse driver, add the appropriate line:

LH A:\MOUSE.EXE <ENTER>

Add the MSCDEX line as you write it down in the "Locating the
MSCDEX CD ROM Extension" step. For example:

LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 <ENTER>

If you need to run any sound card initialization programs or load any
drivers, copy them from the "Sound Cards" section now. The following
example lines are for the SoundBlaster 16:

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T6 <ENTER>
SET SOUND=C:\SB16 <ENTER>
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E <ENTER>
C:\SB16\SB16SET /M:220 /VOC:220 /CD:220 /MIDI:220 /LINE:220 <ENTER>
C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S <ENTER>

Complete the file by pressing <F6> <ENTER>.

STEP 8
REBOOT THE SYSTEM AND START THE GAME
Reboot your system by pressing the <RESET> button on your
computer or by using the <CTRL> <ALT> <DELETE> key sequence
on your keyboard. Refer to your game documentation for the steps to
start the game.

SECTION 8 - OBTAINING A SIERRA PATCH DISK

Ther is one patch available for the Police Quest Collection CD. This patch
(PQ1VGA) solved the lockup in the park on Pentium machines.

The fastest way to obtain a Sierra patch disk is to download it from one of
the following on-line services: The Sierra BBS (206-644-0112), CompuServe (GO
SIERRA) or America OnLine (KEYWORD SIERRA). The file name is PQ1VGA.EXE. You
can also request a patch disk be mailed to you by writing to Sierra On-Line
Patch Disk, Dept., PO Box 485, Coarsegold, CA 93614-0485 or faxing Technical
Support at (206) 644-7697.
