GABRIEL KNIGHT: THE BEAST WITHIN
HD/DVD Installer 1.01 for Windows

INTRODUCTION

This program is a versatile installer for The Beast Within.
It is loaded of brand new features, such as complete hard disk
installation and burning of a DVD-Rom adaption of the game.

It also allows you to simply install the game and play it from
your original CDs. This feature has been inserted for those peoples
who are experiencing problems running the Sierra Installer.

Also, all available patches for the game have already been enclosed
in this installer, so that you don't have to bother to find them by
try-and-guess on that wacky Sierra's FTP server.

INSTRUCTIONS

To install the game, simply follow the directions on screen.
You can choose between the Full installation and the Minimum
installation.

This latter one is intented for those of you who want to play the game
directly from their original CDs; this may be your best bet in case
either you don't have 3 Gigabytes of free space on your harddrive, or
you don't own a DVD drive instead. For these peoples you can close this
dox right now, as you don't need to read any further than that.
Just run the installer, pick the Minimum Installation mode and enjoy! :)

Good for the player of you that you're still reading.
Cause the Full Installation allows you to play the entire game from
your hard disk! Or, as an alternative, to burn the installed files
on a DVD disc, then reinstall the game from there, and play a
compact installation but this time using a *single* DVD, rather
than *six* CDs.

You have to be patient, because the Full Installation takes quite
some time. On my state-of-art Pentium 4, it takes about 20 minutes.

During the installation, you will be asked to insert the six CDs,
one after one. Don't get confused when the Autostart of each CD that
you inserted pops up and asks you "Do you want to Play?". Just click
the "Quit" button, and return to the installation.
If you own the PC Master DVD edition, hit the Cancel button, then a
file browse interface will show, allowing you to select the directory
in which the requested CD is located.

Once the installation is complete, you have two possible choices:
a) play the game right now from your hard disk
  or
b) burn a DVD with the game, and play it from there

If you want to play from your hard disk, then you're done. :)

If you would rather prefer to burn a nice DVD to show your friends,
please keep reading (it is also rumored that GK2 on DVD brings luck
with girls. Don't know if bad or good one, though, but...).

Using a burning program such as Nero, you have to put on a DVD all
the files in the directory that was just installed. Yes, it is THAT easy!

Once the DVD is ready, you MUST uninstall the game.

After that, insert your new GK2 DVD into the drive and run Setup.
From there, you will choose either the Minimum Installation, which will be
of about 16 Megabytes, and will require to put your DVD in the drive
while playing, or the Compact Installation which installs all the game data
but leaves the movies on the DVD.
Alternatively, you can choose to do a Full install and save the DVD for
posterity.

That's about it! Have fun. :)

Should you find any problems running the game, please let me
know, providing me a detailed description of where and how
the problem occurred.

To uninstall this game, you can use the Program Installation
tool from the Windows Control Panel.

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

I had the idea to do all this when I played the game for the first time.
I was very disappointed of playing with that boring sound of CD spinning
in the drive. It is not something that I like to hear when I'm trying to
concentrate on the game!
Special Thanks to Vladimir Gneushev for his great SCI Resource Dumper,
the FreeSCI team for their incredible work too!
The installer has been made using the great Inno Setup 4 available for free
at "http://www.jrsoftware.org".
I added UniSCI to the installer, which is a program that I made to join the
datafiles on the six CDs that made up the game.
Another program that is included in this package is ResChanger, a
free program by "http:www.12noon.com", which is needed to set screen
resolution to 640*480 on computers who don't have WindowsXP.
And, I have also included my anti-interlace patch, together with a nice
configuration tool.
