Modem &  Null-Modem Play
*****************************************************************************

****   NOTE   ***************************************************************
To play D-Day via modem or Null-Modem, you must have at least 600K
Conventional Memory free. If you do not have this available, the game
will not connect properly.
If you do not have enough Conventional Memory, consult your
Technical Support & Tutorial manual, pages 38-40, or look in the TECHFAQ.TXT
file included with this archive.

For Null-Modem play, a SERIAL LAP LINK cable is needed.
For Modem play, a 100% HAYES compatible modem is needed.
If your modem requires a special Init string in order to operate,
then it is not 100% HAYES compatible, and it will NOT WORK with D-Day.
*****************************************************************************

*****************************************************************************
To play D-Day via Modem or Null-Modem, please follow these instructions:
*****************************************************************************

1) Exit any menu, or shell program. Exit Windows completely. This game will
not run in Windows or through the Windows DOS prompt.

2) Go to the directory in which D-Day is installed.

3) Before entering the game, determine which player will be the PRIMARY
machine. The PRIMARY machine will make ALL decisions at the start of a
modem or Null-Modem game. Players should agree on which BAUD rate to use
before starting D-Day.

4) Type DDAYM <ENTER>

5) The player that will be the PRIMARY machine should choose the PRIMARY
button. The other player should select the SECONDARY button. If both players
select the same button, the game will not establish a Modem or Null-Modem
link.

6.1) The PRIMARY machine will now make the following choices;
  A) The type of game to be played. The choices are;

     Standard Game
     Load Game Save
     Historical Scenario

  B) Select the side that the PRIMARY machine will play.
  C) Select the type of link to be used, either ;

     DIRECT LINK for Null-Modem game.
     MODEM CONNECT for restarting a game while the link is still established.
     MODEM DIAL for the PRIMARY machine to input the number to call.
     MODEM AWAIT CONTACT for the SECONDARY machine to instruct their modem
     to wait for a call.

  D) Select the Baud rate that the players have agreed on.
  E) Select the Comm port which you have your Modem set to, or Null-Modem
     cable attached to.
  F) When all this information has been input, hit the SETUP button.
  G) In a Modem game, a dialogue box will appear asking for the number to
     dial. In a Null-Modem game this step is skipped.
  H) The PC will now establish the link. If the link is not established in
     40 seconds, you will need to repeat steps A through G again.

6.2) The SECONDARY player will need to follow these instructions;
  A) Exit any menu, or shell program. Exit Windows completely. This game will
     not run in Windows or through the Windows DOS prompt.
  B) Go to your D-Day directory.
  C) Type DDAYM <ENTER>
  D) Select SECONDARY.
  E) Set the Baud rate & Comm Port for your machine.

     you should select DIRECT LINK.
  G) Your PC will wait 2 minutes for the link to be established.

7) A LINK ESTABLISHED box will appear and show you the progress of the
   file transfer.

8) Once the game begins, the PRIMARY machine will set ALL OPTIONS used
   in the Modem & Null-Modem game.
