                      SLATER AND CHARLIE GO CAMPING

SIERRA FAMILY DEMONSTRATION CD-ROM VERSION 2.0 8/1/93

Although this demo was designed to be run from the menu system provided on
the CD, it is also a standalone runnable product. Simply type DEMO from
within this subdirectory.

If you have not originally configured this product, you will enter the
Install program to configure the demo. This will create a file in the
directory C:\SIERRA\DEMOCD. This directory MUST exist on your hard drive
for Install to work properly. This directory is created the first time you
run the DEMO Menu System (by typing DEMO from the root directory of this
CD-ROM.) Alternately, you can create the C:\SIERRA\DEMOCD subdirectory
manually.

Once configured, typing DEMO will start the demo program. To make any
subsequent changes to the configuration, type INSTALL from within this demo
subdirectory.

MY GAME RUNS SLOW!

In DOS, "Slater And Charlie" supports the following configurations:
   STANDARD INTERNAL SPEAKER W/O DAC
   583680 BYTES (570K) FREE

   ALL MIDI DEVICES W/O DAC
   586035 BYTES (572.3K) FREE

   SOUND CARDS WITH DAC
   589000 BYTES (575.2K) FREE

If you're having trouble getting this much free memory consult the
Sierra Install Manual for help. The more free memory you have the
better the game will run.

REMEMBER: "Slater and Charlie" requires in DOS at minimum
a 286 16mhz, and in Windows a 386sx 16mhz with 2 meg of ram.

THE DIGITAL AUDIO BREAKS UP OR HAS GAPS WHEN IT PLAYS:

In DOS you can modify the following file, "C:\SIERRA\DEMOCD\SLATDEMO.CFG:
audioSize = 12k". You can experiment with the size. Try 4k, 8k, or 16k to
find the one that works best for you. Adding this line will set that
amount of memory aside for playing the audio which will decrease available
memory for the game. If you do this you may find you have to free up more
memory to play the game. In windows you really shouldn't have this
problem. If you still have problems in DOS (or Windows), it could be that
your audio files are fragmented. Try removing the game from your hard
disk, compact the disk using a utility that both defragments and compacts
the data, and then reinstall the game.

PAS-16 USERS IN DOS:
There is a specific driver for the PAS-16 for Audio. During install
you'll need to select the ProAudio 16 driver for speech.
